I invited some kids up from college to play some Frisbee here in Cooperstown; promising a great game with fun kids. Thanks to everyone who showed up I was able to keep my promise and have a great time. The weather today was spectacular with just a little wind. So many kids showed up we needed to break into smaller games. Two small games to tire people out, then a finale game with everyone left standing. The sportsmanship and atmosphere was like something out of a Disney movie. Everyone was happy and played great even though the great players were absent (Stin, Chuck, etc.) To everyone who showed up; thank you. To anyone who missed it: sucks to be you. You really missed a good one.
Crowd: ~40 people
Weather: Perfection, with a little wind

This was I believe the third game of the season, I’m not going to try to backtrack to the first and work from there, too much work sorry. It was a pretty informal game, I think most people are still just getting used to the basic skills again; throwing, catching, reading. So we won’t implement rules and strategy’s for a while I don’t think. When I arrived, I really didn’t want to wear my cleats for some reason so I just went barefoot — big mistake — my feet were numb after ten minutes, the ground is still really cold, really solid, and still wet in some parts, it is imperative that you guys bring shoes for many reasons but mainly just your comfort. There will be plenty of time for barefoot play once it warms up, don’t you worry. I don’t think we actually kept track of the score, but the intensity didn’t suffer because of that. These games are getting better and better, the season is heating up quite nicely, before you know it we’ll be in shape for tournaments. Highlights (for me at least) were the first few layouts of the season, they felt nice.
Weather: It’s still really cold. I think today’s game was around 40 to 50 degrees. It’s important that you guys come prepared, bring extra layers, hats, gloves (preferably some gloves with a bit of grip if you have any), and above all SHOES; we won’t be able to have barefoot games for a while so until then if you don’t bring shoes not only will your feet be really numb but you run the risk of being stepped on, which is not a pleasant experience.
Game intensity: 6/10
MVP: Austin

Hey Guys,
A couple of things I want to say; some suggestions and some things to keep in mind.
I know you guys are excited about the start of the frisbee season but I would strongly suggest that you come prepared for cold, winter keeps trying to ruin our games so I would suggest you bring the following things:
- Shoes: This is really important for the next few weeks at least, not only is the ground still really cold but you’re feet aren’t toughened up by summer abuse yet. You need to work your way into neglecting them, else you’re in for some pain. I know that cleats get a bad rap but I would really suggest you wear them, I’ve only ever accidentally cleated someone once, it just happened to be yesterday, sorry Shyah :). I tried going barefoot on Friday and it was just complete torture, I think I lasted ten minutes before I stopped and put on my shoes, and I know there were people there who wished they had shoes, so bottom line just come prepared guys.
- Extra Layers: This is really not as important, but purely for comfort I would suggest that you bring one layer more than you think that you’ll need. This basic rule of thumb is applicable to all sports really, it’s better to come prepared than to suffer through the cold.
Some of you may remember Ryan Pennell, He came to alot of our games last summer (tall, blond), anyway, he’s looking into starting an informal frisbee team for cooperstown. The team will be either very loosely affiliated with the school or not at all, we can’t expect to get a dime of funding so any expenses will have to be paid for either out of the pocket or through fundraising. If all goes well, the team will be able to go to at least a few tournaments. There has even been talk of friendly scrimmages against milford kids (Eamonn Hinchey has been organizing a frisbee club at MHS so I hear) and then combining forces for tournaments. It’s all very unsure at this point but I’ll keep you guys posted.
I want to mention that the Nick Alfonso Memorial Tournament is coming up. Some of you went to the Hill Town Throwdown last fall in Oneonta, it’s exactly the same tournament with a different name. Those of you who didn’t go to the tournament last fall missed out on a lot, we had a ball, and even with our great disadvantages (we were a team of ten against teams often reaching numbers of twenty plus, and we were almost all high school kids competing against college teams) we held our ground and won a game (almost winning another one on the second day, when we only had eight people). It was an awesome tournament with awesome people, but this time I want more people to come, set your calendars (I’m looking for the date, I’ll post it when I find it), I don’t want ten kids backing out on me in the week before like last time.
To prepare for the tournament we’ll start doing 15 minute strategy/rule sessions where we teach you guys more about the game every once in a while. I know some of you hate these rules but just try to suck it up for a few games every now and then please.
For all the athletes in our group, spring sports are shaping up and you don’t want to hurt yourself. STRETCH. You may look dorky somewhat but you’ll thank yourself later when you haven’t pulled a muscle.
The season is shaping up quite nicely. Everyone’s really rusty but that will wear off fast, it always does. I really like the enthusiasm I’ve seen at the first few games, keep it up and this will be a great season.

Hey Guys,
It’s been quite a while since I stopped contributing to the Frisbee Log, at the time I was getting increasingly involved in the SUCO team, and suffering through the shin splints was just getting to be way too much to go to all our local games anymore. I had really hoped that someone would step up to the plate to take my place in authoring the frisbee log, but no one expressed interest so I sadly just let it die. Now that I’m no longer involved with SOFA as much these days, and my shin splints are gone, I am looking to bring this Log back to life with help from Max and whoever else wants to lend a hand every now and then. Special thanks go to Max by the way for contributing web space and setting this up for us.
I am looking to change the log in a few ways from the original.
- I would really like to feature media of any kind in the log, Pictures, Videos, hell even drawings. If you’re ever at a game and you don’t really feel like playing, come to me and ask to use my camera, I will try to remember to bring it to every game. If you take pictures at a game, e-mail them to me and I will gladly use them. I cannot and will not take pictures of every game, I will on occasion, but for the most part I have to leave the responsibility to you, the community, to help us with this.
- I want to expand interaction. One of the great possibilities that Max and I saw with this new format is the option for comments and reader contribution. Here is where I need your help. If you have a nomination for MVP, send it in. If you’re unhappy with a log entry, comment, we can change it if we agree.
- I might change the format slightly, I like the existing format (look at the old posts) but I kind of think it needs a bit more information, idk I’ll think about it.
- I’m separating it into two categories: Local (which regularly consists of extremely informal play) and Tournaments (we don’t get the opportunity to go to many, but when we do we take them, and this category will be for the few tourny’s we get to go to.
Other than that, I will stay true to the log’s original design, it seemed to work, it got peoples attention, kept people’s interest (not an easy task in this community), and it was pretty easy to write.
Not much more to say here other than I hope you guys like the new site and read the new and improved Frisbee Log. Let me know what you think, give feedback; negative or positive, I embrace it the same.
Thanks,
Green

After everyone left, Chuck, Austin, Marcos, and I tossed the frisbee for a while, and after about ten minutes Owen and Travis came, wanting to play, naturally we obliged, playing with teams of 3 (Travis, Owen, and Marcos vs Chuck, Austin, and I) to 5 points. Easily the best small game I’ve ever played. They led us 3-1 and then we came back to win with a score of 3-5.
Weather: Perfect except a bit chilly and a bit of hidden wind (not apparent but the frisbee would float or sink every now and then
Game intensity: 8.5/10
MVP: Austin and I

I came late because I had my bike race the same day, but we had a pretty nice game from my point of view, same crowd that we had on friday came minus a few college players (Scrafford, Gates), but yeah, it was good.

I stayed till it started but I couldn’t stay for the game because I had to rest for my 65 mile bike race the next day. Austin tells me it was just really hot and no one cared, except for Henry.
Weather: Hot
Game intensity: 2/10
MVP: Henry, for caring…
